Going to Ise

There was a large group approaching the main building ahead of us, so we checked out the side buildings first.

The trees look like they have received bark surgery!

This is the main shrine location. And yes, it's empty. The main shrine is currently behind the wall on the left.

Approaching the main entry. Apparently, every 100 years, the temple is dismantled and a new one build on the empty spot.

Here is the entrance, and no cameras allowed in there. The woman taking a cell phone pic in the previous image had stopped at the actual entrance.

As we left the main shrine area, the roof was visible through the trees. No restrictions on photography here, I hope...

Each shrine had this double location feature. The old location was framed in large rocks, and had white rocks within the perimeter.

The trees were quite large. Or, perhaps, Yuko is quite small?

The overhead canopy was unobstructed by any of the trappings of modern life.

The greens were everywhere.

As we were leaving, this procession went by. Apparently twice a day, for the past 1,400 years, they have set out food for the gods.
