Kinkakuji

...now where was I... Oh yeah: a lot of gold, with pine trees in front...

This angle shows the scorch marks better.

Oh look! Another tree! ...just kidding... I'm in awe of the gardener's skills.

We were nearly around at the back now (the north side).

The detail is amazing.

The gold leaf is very thin, yet the wood surfaces that it's on are so smooth in the first place.

Colours and reflections...

In places the woodwork has shifted slightly, so there are some gaps in the gold work.

Mind you, with that many visitors, all paying to walk by, the gold will have been paid for already!

This building is a recent rebuild following a fire, and googling "kinkaku-ji" will give you all those details.

The "kin" in kinkakuji is Japanese for "gold".

We had made our way mostly around the back.
