Whale Watching

Just kidding! They let us out without too much pleading on our part! The guide was actually quite entertaining.

Here is an example of the rippled lava where it hardened on the surface. It looks just like the section we saw in the cave.

The cave was at the red-white dot furthest away from Reykjavik. We were advised to also check out this river, which is at the next red-white dot.

There is a lot of water going between the lava flow layers, and it comes out here, joining the river.

Next up is the largest hotspring in Iceland (Deildartunguhver), generating 180L/sec of 100C water. It is being used to heat every home within 65km.

Not all of the water is being captured, though! This is beside the parking lot.

So. Hot water. Tourists... Oh, I know, let's build a fancy spa! ...so they did! This is right beside the big hotspring.

The facility has multiple pools, a relaxation room, and a restaurant. It is apparently a great place to be seen...

The pools were very nice, and the circle shapes were more creative than the usual. The relaxation room is at the back, with the big windows.

Dinner there was excellent. As usual, the food wasn't cheap, but it was always very good. The white-out in the window on the right is the steam from the big hotspring.

There is so much hot water, it just spills out the last tub... The greenhouses in the background make another good use for all the heat.
