Takachiho Gorge
Another of the must-see locations: Takachiho Gorge.
A beautiful location, with so much geology on display!
This large rock is part of Japanese mythology, as it was hoisted as a proof of strength by one of the gods.
We followed the gorge upstream and I (at least) enjoyed seeing the wide array of erosional features!
We are still down in the depths of the gorge, and at this point three bridges are visible above us!
The volcanic rock here is fairly soft, and ages quickly!
This is the road we drove down, and we are now walking up to exit the gorge itself to check out a few other nearby locations.
It is a very narrow road, with very tight hairpin corners. Only small and mid-sized cars (by Japan standards) are permitted.
