The Nagato area

The Akiyoshi Cave.



The cave system is 1.2 km long, and includes a mid-point exit for those needing to meet a schedule.



There were many distractions along the walkway to the cave, this being a definite improvement on the usual ice cream vendors!



The apprach to the cave is along the creek that exits the cave.



The cave is still being eroded, and the entry is protected from falling rocks.



The first main chamber is quite large!



This formation was called "100 plates".



The further into the cave we went, the lower the roof became.



Until we entered an older cave, which continued for a short distance.



The older cave was "dry" and no longer actively eroding and making new formations. This is the end of the system, and we turned around to return to the entrance



You could exit there, but you would need a taxi to get back to your parked car. This is because there was a mountain between you and entrance, and the road back wandered a fair distance.
