Yanago region


I'm always fascinated by these aged rock carvings. No, it's not a grave marker.



The upper temple, reached by climbing a path for 10-15 minutes (or 20 - 25 minutes if you have to back from here to check if you locked the car...)



The buildings up here were newer, and much larger, and occupied. The mountain hiking trail continues behind this building.



The monk on duty was chatty (with Yuko), and encouraged the photography.



This is only ~100 yrs old, but has faded badly.



There be dragons!



And lots of gold...



Ok, so I like the stonework. It certainly has more personality than concrete!



"The backwards gate", according to the monk. We couldn't see a difference between this or that side.
But while image sorting I noticed that the hoops used to allow them to bar the door are on the wrong side of the doors!
