Kanazawa region
Hida. This was another preserved region, and part of a small city.
The building fronts are kept in the more "unwelcoming" look of the older business frontage, which offered greater privacy and security.
The area ran for several blocks on either side of this river.
The style is preserved even in the newer construction.
There were some interesting interpretations of the style in the most recent additions!
This little fellow gives me the impression that an artist made a charicature of a specific businessman in the pose of one of the gods.

There were active storefronts currently open, though most looked like this, with the doors closed. We went into several to check out the pottery.
