More Reykjavik
The first dock area was busy with the whale and puffin tours. A bit too cold and windy for comfort, though...
I liked the name! ...not open yet, though...
A literal "Bike chain" ! ...chain bike ?
This is a working dock area, so we had to get to the other side of the repair yards to continue into the tourist area.
This ship still stuck... I remember John trying to move it 7 years ago!
Another great place to visit is the Whales of Iceland, heavily advertised..
Oh well, let's try something else. Where are all these motocycles from?
So Yuko asked ! Apparently on the 1st of May, all the bikers in Iceland meet for a tour of the city. Roads are closed and traffic re-directed.
The gang going by are "The Frost Giants", from the town next to Rekyjavik. These giants are referred to in Icelandic historic myths.
For the afternoon, we booked a trip to Sky Lagoon !
The 20 minute bus ride was preferred to using the car, as that would have meant having to find another parking space in Reykjavik!
Check-in was easy enough (once the confused tourists up front were sorted out!), and we picked up our towels and wrist bands.
Sky Lagoon is built on the end of an industrial works and warehouse area south of Reykjavik.
While that doesn't sound good, the view was blocked in that direction, and wide open only to the Atlantic. The hot water is piped to here.
Sky Lagoon is recent, and likely built as a defense against the volcanic threats to Blue Lagoon.
With this new facility, when Blue Lagoon is closed due to a new lave flow threat, at least there is now somewhere to relocate the guests.
