Back to Vancouver
Back to the Keflavik airport, after returning the rental car, and completing the tax refund papers. ...still can't figure out the artwork...
Check-in counters opened 5 hrs prior to our flight time, which was about 30 minutes after completing tax papers. Our passports were very carefully inspected.
A small sticker was added to the outside "don't remove this". Then on to the luggage check-in, and more inspections. Then upstairs to the security scanners, so belts off, etc. Then on to the waiting area,
where the duty-free and munchie shops were.
We had over 4 hrs pre-flight still, so wandered a bit, then had an early dinner. Now 3 hrs pre-flight, and our gate was listed as being 20 minute walk down the hall.
So, we start walking. At the gate, there was a very long lineup, sorted by passport type. Since we were not EU, we were in the longer line. Here each person was photographed, and passports checked again.
Then finally we could head to our departure gate. ...almost. One more boarding pass check first, then on to our departure gate. ...almost.
At the loading gate, those with a passport sticker could go through, while those without had to stand over there, and eventually a scrutineer arrived, and began carefully checking each person's passport.
Apperantly, if you self-checked in for the flight on-line, and self checked your luggage, you didn't have the passport sticker, so those who got things done ahead of time were slowed down!
We had great seats on both flights! These were regular seats on Business class spacing. We had to pay a small premium, but it was worth it.
Our feet couldn't reach the seats in front. As an added bonus, the seat next to Yuko was empty!
Good-bye Iceland !
And "Hello" Greenland !
The view of the glacier valleys was amazing !
And there was more than one !
However, away from the shore, the ice takes over, and everything is covered.
After Greenland, and before Baffin Island, we meet the big icebergs.
And then the sea-ice takes over. This is now frozen salt water.
The sea-ice got pretty tightly packed.
There were open areas between the ice.
