My father worked as a Chokerman, who attached the winch cable to the cut logs, and eventually as the Rigging Slinger, who was resposible for directing the chockermen.
The massive winch (skidder) used to move the cut logs to a central pick-up location.
My father is on the left side, with his hand on his lunch box.
Moving the winch. It just dragged itself wherever it needed to be.
The spar tree was used to get the winch cable as high as possible, so the logs could be dragged with less resistance, and could be piled.
