Logging Camp.

The chokermen attaching a log to the winch cable. My father is on the left.

It's getting easier to spot my father's helmet: it's the one with most of the paint missing.

The cable is in place.

The cable is too heavy for 1 person to handle alone.

Can anyone tell what is happening here, and what my father (left) is holding?
Hey, Marion, Thanks for the help!
"Regarding your query relating to a photo of Dad in Franklin River (group of guys standing around some smoke with Dad holding mysterious items), our opinion is that they were burning some of the scrap throughout the day so they could enjoy some warmth on coffee/lunch breaks. The stuff Dad is holding looks like shredded cedar bark, and the background indicates debris left after active logging, which is later burned (I think they call it slash burning). Judging from the jackets they are wearing, it looks like a typical cold & damp BC Fall or Spring, so it would make sense that they would be looking for some kind of heat. What do you think? Do we win a prize?!"
