Aquarium & Big Beach.
The glass tunnel makes for a pretty cool feature!
...she's giving me the stink eye... She was taking a picture down the tunnel like I just had, and right behind her, a Hammerhead shark was slowly cruising by.
So I said to her "Behind you!", and started to take the Hammerhead shark's picture. She didn't see the shark, she was too busy giving me the "You dare to disturb me?" look...
Yuko and the Stingrays.
We then continued on to Kihei, which had all the appearances of being the "used to be popular" area of Maui.
In the 60's and 70's, this is where the action was. The hotels are small, and are located in a narrow stretch between the shore and the main road in town.
There was no room to expand or rebuild.
This was our lunch spot. Delicious CBLT sandwiches: crab, bacon, lettuce and tomato! American portion sizes, like everywhere in the USA, and we couldn't finish them.
The rooster, and a chicken, were patrolling the outside seating area, looking for tasty tidbits to fall out of the sky!
After lunch, we carried on to "Big Beach", which is located in a state park, and has thus survived the real estate developer's attention.
Depending on traffic, we were about an hour and a quarter from the hotel. Double lane roads are the exception here, it's mostly single lane, and no passing.
"Maui Rush Hour" seems to be from around 2:30 pm - 5 pm, and seems to involve all the roads we travelled. It took us over 2 hrs to get back to the hotel.
This is a very wide, and very nice beach! Popular with the locals, there didn't seem to be as many tourists here. How can you tell? Look at what they wear!
This girl was having fun with the waves...
...she would sit on the edge of the bank, and wait...
...then when the wave hit, it would collapse the sand from under her, and she would slide down off the ledge.
"Hey! You! Tourist! Watch where you walk, will ya!" Wow, this local is crabby...
These crabs were about the size of an apple, and were found scattered here and there on the beach. Each stayed near its little dugout.
